Among the methods for treatment of gases from COS, the most common are extraction with an aqueous solution of diethanolamine (DEA) followed by the regeneration of DEA at 120-130 °C and hydrolysis of COS with hot alkali solution proceeding at 80 °C.

R&D Center “AhmadullinS” offers both options for treatment of LPG from carbonyl sulphide: using DEA (DeCOS-2 technology) and alkali (DeCOS-1 technology).

Moreover, R&D Center developed its own technology of alkaline hydrolysis (DeCOS-1 technology) consisting of COS extraction by alkaline reagent (promoter) containing water-soluble polar organic compounds and followed by separation and regeneration of the alkaline reagent saturated with sulfur compounds in the presence of air and heterogeneous KSM-X catalyst. The main advantages of the proposed method are: availability of polar water-soluble organic compounds contained in the alkaline reagent, their high efficiency of carbonyl sulphide decomposition and insolubility in hydrocarbons, which allows COS hydrolysis in light hydrocarbon feed to proceed at temperatures of 30-40 °C and eliminates the need for its subsequent aqueous washing.
